Research topics and future developments |

The present research topics are:
Rational use of energy: the current focus is about the impact of building insulation upgrade on reducing energy consumption in the local area and the energy recovery from wood waste biomasses. We are currently evaluating, as a mid term goal, the option to build a small scale experimental plant for biomass gasification and/or hydrogen production.
Heat and mass transfer in porous media: in cooperation with the University of Padua , where a large testing facility is available, we are validating a 2-D numerical model to analyze heat and mass transfer in porous building materials. We expect to start soon the extension of the model to 3 dimensions.
Environmental thermo-fluid-dynamics. We are cooperating with other groups in the department to study the behavior of hot effluents released in channels/rivers, to analyze thermal convection phenomena in mountain valleys and to model the process used to produce artificial snow in "snow-guns".
