Energy conversion |

In cooperation with other groups of DICA and with the Environmental
Engineering Department of the University of Genoa a research
project about the use of biomass as an energy resource and
in particular as a starting point for hydrogen production
has been set up. The chemical processes we focus on are represented
by syngas production through gasification and/or pyrolysis
followed by steam reforming and water shift to obtain hydrogen.
As starting material we consider a large variety of waste
biomass products, especially the ones available in a mountain
area such as Trentino.. |

The extraction of compounds interesting for the food and
pharmaceutic industry starting from agricultural-forestal
materials is under study. In particular the attention is focused
on the extraction of polyphenolic compounds (which represent
natural anti-oxidant) from vine industry by-product –
grape skin, seeds and stalks – and from fruit juices
industry – pressing wastes. The technology utilized
is supercritical CO2 extraction. |
