In order to obtain the title of Doctor the candidate must earn 180 credits distributed as follows:
- 50 credits reserved for the attendance of specific courses offered by the Doctoral School or by
other Doctoral programmes in other universities within the sphere of co-operation agreements with similar
courses or for the attendance of other specialist courses of an equal level offered by Italian or foreign
universities;
- 20 credits for training courses and/or the attendance of seminars and specialization courses
within companies and public and private research institutes. The Doctoral School Committee evaluates the
compatibility of such activities with the training objectives and establishes number of credits according
to the value of the same. Teaching experience is required for all doctoral students in Structural Engineering
prior to taking the final examination. Teaching experience is defined as lecturing in either a
problem-solving section or laboratory session, or in an undergraduate course designated by the
Doctoral School Committee. The requirement can be fulfilled by service as a teaching assistant.
- 110 credits for research activity on the specific topic of the doctoral dissertation.
At the begin of every year the doctoral student shall provide the list of courses (Syllabus) he/she intends to attend during
the following year.

At the end of the first and second year the candidate must provide an annual progress report.
At the end of the third year he/she must produce the final research report in order to be admitted
to the final examination.
