The scientific areas of research are oriented towards Materials and Structural Mechanics and the Design, Preservation and Control of Structures. However to use together the capabilities of other disciplines in a modern holistic approach to research and to meet the teaching requirements of the doctoral programme as a third level of teaching, other scientific-disciplinary areas are involved, namely: Geotechnics, Building Technology and Architecture, History of Architecture and, partially, Telecommunications and Systems for Data Processing.
