The Department of Materials Engineering and Industrial Technologies (DIMTI) is the name taken since 2003 by the Department of Materials Engineering, that was created in January 1990, whose first director was Prof. Paolo Giordano Orsini, from the former Department of Engineering (active since 1985), together with two other departments: Mechanical and Structural Engineering and Civil and Environmental Engineering.
Since it was founded, the main components of DIMTI have been referred to the traditional branches of Materials Engineering, with the department being originally organized in six laboratories named according to the main research areas developed therein.
