Laboratory of Scanning Electron Microscopy
"Paolo Giordano Orsini"

The Laboratory of Scanning Electron Microscopy at the Department of Materials Engineering and Industrial Technologies of Trento University was created by Prof. P. Giordano Orsini in 1987.
From the beginning, with the acquisition of the first scanning electron microscope, the Laboratory starter its activity, providing an invaluable support to the researches of the Department and to the teaching activity of the Faculty of Engineering, with particolar regard to the Course in Materials Engineering.
In 2000, the facilities of the Laboratory have been upgraded with acquisition of a state-of-the-art microscope, that can be operated, in addition to the conventional high vacuum mode, also in low vacuum and environmental conditions. In the same year, the Laboratory was dedicated to the memory of Prof. Orsini after his untimely death.
In 2004, the (E)SEM GROUP has been established for a more efficient use of the lab facilities and exploitation of different operating conditions. Researchers from Department laboratoriers are members of the (E)SEM GROUP and spend part of their research efforts for the developments in the field of electron microscopy.
