Claudio Della Volpe was born in Naples on 11/17/50 and took is Chemistry degree in 1976. After a short job in school and industry he became Researcher in Physical Chemistry in 1984 at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Naples. From 1995 he is at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Trento.
In Naples he gave courses of Physical Chemistry (Thermodynamics and Kinetics) and he gives now the course of Electrochemical Processes for the students of Materials Engineering, Applied Physical Chemistry for Food Industry Engineering, Physical Chemistry of Biomedical processes for Physics and Advanced Thermodynamics for Ph.D. Students of Materials Engineering.
His research interests were initially in the thermodynamics of liquid solutions: calorimetry and measurement of diffusion coefficients in multicomponent solutions. From 1989 he works in the field of surface characterizations with contact angle and atomic force microscopy.
His main field of research is the application of acid-base theory to the characterization of polymer surfaces and the developement of new and more precise methods for the measurement of the contact angle. He has published about 150 papers of which more than 70 in international journals.Claudio Della Volpe is member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Adhesion Science and Technology and is Webmaster of the Web Mailing list of Italian Chemical Society.
