How to open NVIZ: Display -> NVIZ; a window appears and a raster, vector or sites map have to be specified. In the raster file choose the DTM elevation.dem, in vector railroads and no sites file is selected.


Press Run.
Output windows are shown, the Generic Panel in the top2 window (image below), and a monitor to visualize the requested 3D files.

In top2 click on the arrow in the directional panel, the one containing the N,S,E,W coordinates...

...and, keeping it pressed, move it. As the arrow is moved around, observers' point of view gradually changes: the 3D image is visualized with a wire mesh. When you release the mouse button, the image is automatically redrawn in the specified position. If the RESET button is pressed, image visualization will be restored to the original position.
Move the left scroll bar (zexag), and terrain roughness will increase or decrease: this command manages the relationship between surface size and height; if zexag is set to 1, the ratio will be 1:1.
Click on the box under zexag, write 3 then press ENTER: you will set zexag to the value of 3.

NOTICE: Every other control of NVIZ works in this way!

height scrool bar controls observers' height, perspective controls point of views' proximity from image center and consequently controls image zoom.

Checking the (Auto) Draw box, on the right, the surface is automatically redrawn every time it's modified; if it's unselected, when the arrow in the directional panel is moved and the surface changes position, only the wire mesh is visualized.
Checking the (Auto) Clear box, on the left, when the Draw checkbox is also selected, both the surface and the wire mesh are visualized.


Display the surface by pressing DRAW, the first button on the left.
Press the Clear (central) button to erase the monitor.

Now check (auto) Clear and Draw checkbox, unselect Surface, move the arrow in the directional panel: surface will be visualized only with the wire mesh and vector objects are easily recognizable.

Try again selecting Surface but unselecting Vector: now only the (colored) surface is displayed.

The same rules are used for the sites file: to add a site file go to the Sites Panel.

Press RESET button, select Vectors checkbox, click on (LOOK) here button: this command extablishes the new point of view on the actual monitor. If the arrow in the directional panel is moved, the image now rotates around that point.

Click on (LOOK) centre button to reset the central point of view.
Pressing on (LOOK) top button the observer is put over the point of view, and pressing (LOOK) cancel the observer can move around the monitor without modifying the point of view.

To close NVIZ: from the menu select File -> Quit, then click on the I/O NVIZ window and press ENTER, or click with the mouse right button on the Stop button in the NVIZ startup window.
