HOW TO OPEN A MONITOR
To visualize a map, or anything else in GRASS, the preliminary operation of starting a monitor must be made; as many operations of this GIS, it can be done either using the menu or the terminal.
From the menu
Click on Config -> Monitors -> Start -> X0-X6 or CELL (virtual monitor for 2D
or 3D graphic exportation, see d.mon CELL).
Available monitors are X0 -> X6 and CELL.
In GRASS, monitor dimension is equivalent to image dimension: this means that bigger monitors need more memory resources to run.
To stop a monitor DO NOT click on the X on the top right corner of the window, but click on the menu Config -> Monitors -> Stop -> X0-X6 or CELL , depending on which monitor you want to stop.
From the terminal
Write d.mon and select option 1 from the next list:
Now insert the number of the monitor you want to open, or prompt list to have a full
list of all available monitors.
Available monitors are X0 -> X6, CELL (virtual monitor for 2D or 3D graphic exportation, see d.mon CELL), and HTMLMAP (to export HTML image map).
Prompt x0, for example.
If you open more than one monitor, the active one is the last selected: to select a monitor choose option 3 in the MONITOR MENU.
To stop a monitor DO NOT click on the X on the top right corner of the window, but select option 2, otherwise the monitor won't be effectively terminated.
