Close to the Malpensa Airport of Milan, Ispra is located at the Lake Maggiore in the region of Lombardy. Lombardy has a great importance in an Italian context owing to its geographical position and its history. It is situated in northern Italy, at the foot of the Alps and in the centre of the North Italian Plain, at the intersection of the main routes which link the Mediterranean area and central Europe. The lakes are the most atmospheric and best-known aspect of landscape and tourism of the region. The climate, milder than in the rest of the region, the continual surprise and beauty of the views, of the vegetation, of the styles of architecture, with ancient towers and churches, villas and lush parks, picturesque roads and houses, has always fascinated poets and writers and attracted visitors.

The price of the hotels is about 90 Euro (about the same in US$) per person per night for a single room, and 126 Euro for a double if reservations are made by way of the JRC (see section on Workshop Registration). Both prices include breakfast and taxes. 

The hotels are located in Arona, about 22 km from the JRC in Ispra. Transport will be provided by the JRC from the hotels to the conference site in the morning and back in the evening.
